VT21R – 2021 Subaru WRX STI Rally Car

The 2020 Subaru WRX STIs are modified to create rally cars that are light, tough, and fast as all get out. Three of these beasts are run in the OPEN 4WD Class in the American Rally Association (ARA) National Championship: #199 WRX STI, driven by Travis Pastrana, and #180 WRX STI, driven by Brandon Semenuk, and #43, driven by Ken Block for his return to racing with Vermont SportsCar after a 12 year hiatus.

The transition from stock STI to rally car is extensive and impressive, from the chassis to what’s under the hood to the exterior body and interior elements.  Cases in point: a multipoint roll cage custom-built from T45 steel is welded into place for added safety and rigidity;  a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, turbocharged and intercooled SUBARU BOXER® engine with an ARA Championship-mandated 34mm turbo inlet restrictor is designed for longevity and response while still producing approximately 330bhp and 400 lb-ft. of torque.
