Subaru Announces 2007 Rally Contingency Programs, Forms The 'Subaru PGT Championship Cup'

Subaru of America today announced it will continue its support of Subaru drivers in the 2007 Rally America National Championship. The company will again offer prize payouts, start funds and a fully*-*stocked parts truck all 2007 Rally America National Championship events. Subaru will also create the Subaru PGT Championship Cup which will feature increased prize payouts to eligible Production GT (PGT) class entrants and an official test with Subaru Rally Team USA will be awarded to the highest placing Subaru PGT driver at the season’s conclusion.
The biggest change for 2007 is a threefold increase in payouts for the popular PGT class, where well over $9,000 will be paid out at each event. Subaru PGT drivers will now be able to win $2,500 for a 1st place finish. Prize payouts will be paid to the top six finishing Subaru PGT entrants. Any Subaru PGT entrant who either finishes outside of the top six, or does not finish the event, will receive $500.*
“2006 saw the resurgence of the PGT class, where it consistently comprised a competitive field of entrants in most rounds of the Rally America National Championship,” explains James Han of Subaru of America, Inc. “In an effort to maintain this momentum, Subaru of America is pleased to announce the 2007 Subaru PGT Championship Cup contingency program which offers increased awards, pays out deeper into the field, and includes the added bonus of a test session with Subaru Rally Team USA for the highest-placing Championship Cup driver at the conclusion of the season.”
Rally America’s PGT class is the home for relatively stock Subaru WRX rally cars. The class has proven to be both affordable and highly competitive in 2006. Although the class restricts performance modifications, it has been proven that a well*-*driven Subaru WRX PGT car can finish on the podium of a Rally America National Championship event and consistently set competitive stage times against Open Class rally cars.
Subaru will continue to offer prize payouts and $500 start funds to Group N competitors at a revised level, while the Regional Contingency program remains unchanged.
