“The Rocket” – Custom VT14R

Vermont SportsCar was approached by a private client to take the championship winning Open Class VT14R rally car and modify it for personal use. This particular VT14R brought David Higgins and Craig Drew their fourth consecutive Rally America National Championship title in 2014. In the same year, it was piloted to the summit of Mt. Washington to set a new course record time of 6:09:09. 

A full engine dyno re map was carried out to allow for the turbo air restrictor being removed and for a fuel variant that is more readily available than the high octane race fuel that is typically used in a motorsport application. As the client’s wish was to not use the car on gravel roads, the car was modified to tarmac specifications; the front brakes were replaced with 355mm discs and 6 piston calipers and the brake pad material was changed for a type more in keeping with the end use.  Wheels were upgraded from standard 15″ gravel wheels to 18″ bespoke wheels. A larger passenger seat was also added to enable the client to take passengers in a more comfortable seating position rather than the tight fitting seats used in competition.  Lastly, a custom livery was designed and installed.  Prior to taking delivery of the car the client was invited to a private test session where VSC engineers adjusted suspension and engine modes to the driver’s preference.
