The Super Production Class (SP) was created by Rally America to offer a more affordable, yet still extremely competitive class below the top tier Open class. Although more restrictive than the Open Class, the SP class allowed several key modifications to Subaru WRX and/or STI model rally cars to make them extremely competitive platforms while being much less costly than an Open Class car. The SP category became the most hotly contested Rally America class in the championship, and the 2015 Subaru WRX STI Super Production Class car  – prepared by Vermont SportsCar – was ideally suited for the task. The rules of the class required the car to stay near stock with the exception of brakes, suspension and ECU, along with any required safety equipment.
