Subaru Rally Team USA’s Travis Pastrana and Ken Block have hit the cover of the September 2008 issue of Racer X Magazine! The jaw-dropping cover-shot features Pastrana flipping his freestyle moto-x bike over his teammate Ken Block’s airborne 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI rally car, the two crossing in the air after taking off from separate jumps. The issue of Racer X features an extensive article about Block and Pastrana regarding their success rally racing in the USA and across the World. The issue also features a stunning pull-out poster of the jump from DC Shoes. The September 2008 issue of Racer X will be on newsstands this week.
The cover story is a massive accomplishment as Racer X is one of the premier motocross publications in the US. Both Ken Block and Travis Pastrana are very pleased and honored to be featured on the cover, and excited with the progress and popularity rally is exhibiting as a growing sport in the US. Pastrana being the reigning two-time Rally America National Champion and Block having earned Silver at last year’s X Games Rally competition, the Subaru Rally Team USA teammates are no strangers albeit relative newcomers to the rally racing scene. “We are honored to have a rally car on the cover of one of the top moto magazines in the world. The photo shoot was so much fun and it was great to showcase the skills of our multi-talented and very dynamic team. Plus I never turn down a chance to jump my rally car!,” said Ken Block. The Racer X issue marks the 7th time that Ken Block as graced the cover of a major magazine.
The cover shot was taken during a two day video shoot on a jump built for the newest of Travis Pastrana’s line of videos aptly named Thrillbillies Double Wide. The videos feature motorized antics and stunts intertwined with outtakes from the lives of action sports athletes. Pastrana leaping from an airplane with no parachute was among stunts in last year’s video, Thrillbillies. The newest Nitro Circus video will include this motocross-over-rally-car jump just outside Salt Lake City, Utah. A video clip of this historic feat can be viewed at DC Shoes website. Pastrana and Block will be seen in action jumping again at the biggest event of the year for North American Rallying, the ESPN X Games 14 in Los Angeles, Aug 3rd.
